Case Study: Bowman’s Mill, Ickleford Structural Assessment

GC Robertson recently conducted a structural inspection at Bowman’s Mill, Ickleford a historic flour mill site dating back to 1892. Located near Hitchin, the mill lies along tributaries of the Rivers Purwell and Oughton, which once powered the water-wheel.

The inspection aimed to determine if the building, after several years of water ingress, was structurally sound enough to allow contractor access for upcoming environmental works.

The assessment confirmed that the structure is in satisfactory condition, enabling safe access for restoration and development.

This evaluation was pivotal in progressing plans for the site, which now has planning permission for 71 new homes and is currently up for sale.
